Despite the sluggish economic situation
in South Korea, such as the decline in the Korean won exchange rate and commodity prices, PCB
manufacturers in South Korea still set the growth rate target for this year at 22%. Therefore, whether
South Korean PCB manufacturers can achieve the sales target of 5 trillion won that they failed to
achieve last year is of great concern.
PSP Research Institute, a private PCB
research organization, conducted a market survey on 48 PCB manufacturers and found that the total sales
volume planned by the manufacturers this year will reach 5.8 trillion won.
Among
them, Samsung Electric Machinery Co., Ltd. said that its PCB business would achieve sales of 1.3
trillion won this year, up 15% over last year, becoming the first South Korean PCB manufacturer whose
sales exceeded one trillion won.
In addition, LG Electronics' PCB business sales are
planned to reach 650 billion won, an increase of 18% over the previous year; Next are Simmtech Co.,
Ltd. (KRW 350 billion) and Daeduk Electronics
Co., Ltd. (320 billion won), Daeduck GDS Co., Ltd. (300 billion won) and Interflex Co., Ltd. (300
billion won).
Last year, Simmtech, a semiconductor PCB manufacturer, lagged behind
Daeduk Electronics with sales of 295 billion won, and this year's performance is expected to
surpass Daeduk Electronics.
Jang Dong kyu, director of PSP Research Institute, believes
that the economic situation will improve this year, and the efforts made by enterprises in reducing
unit sales prices and developing diversified customer groups will also bring about positive effects of
increased sales and enhanced profitability.
The survey report also shows that the
total sales target set by South Korean PCB manufacturers last year was 5.53 trillion won, but the
actual sales volume was only 4.74 trillion won, only 86% of the target value. Of the 48 manufacturers
interviewed, only 11 achieved or exceeded the original goal.
